  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from larissa -- One of the most intellectually stimulating reads I have taken part in! : I read this for school but I would easily re-read this. It discusses the worth of human beings, the role of the police, how an environment affects one's decisions and personality, what makes one person greater than another, and the psychological effect crime, specifically murder, has on a person. These were just some of the questions I thought about but I'm sure there are others I missed too. If you don't care about any of these topics, you could read it just for the characters and mystery. Almost all of the characters are very complex and at the least, very amusing. I've met one of my favorite bad guys (Svidrigailov) in this book and could re-read this for him alone. You constantly wondering how you should consider the characters. For instance, are they bad or good? I have found a favorite in this book :) ( Reviewed in the United States on November 9, 2014 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Sam -- Great read : I had to read this book for my high school English class, and it was amazing! I've never really liked the books I've had to read in school, but this one is by far my favorite. It's different than most books because the crime here happens at the beginning, and the book explores the psychology of what happens to the main character. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Phillip S. -- A classic that everybody, especially those that are not keen to Russian lit., should check out. It may change your mind. : An absolute classic, everybody should take advantage of a free, if not a .99 cent copy of this book. Also worth reading are the other classics by the same author. English major, English teacher and die-hard reader - but too slow, too depressing and just too irritating. Get over yourself already. ffft. ( Reviewed in the United States on April 16, 2015 )
